Sep 20, 2010 · I have read that you are supposed to get your a/c system vaccumed/purged to remove the r134a from the system before recharging with the R12a. That's required by law. In most cases, mixing different types of refrigerants is illegal. Mechanically, adding R-12a to an R-134a system won't harm anything. R-12a is a hydrocarbon-based refrigerant.
